Walmart-owned e-commerce giant Flipkart announced its entry into the Nepalese market on Friday, as it has partnered with Sastodeal to host a selection of its products on the Nepalese platform.

Clothing from Flipkart’s fashion arm Myntra will also be available in Nepal through Sastodeal - Sastodeal- Facebook

As part of Flipkart’s new partnership with Sastodeal, the latter will host around 5,000 products from Flipkart marketplace sellers on its own platform, allowing Nepalese shoppers to order the items. Featured products will span categories including men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, baby-care goods, sports goods, and electronics, the Kathmandu Post reported. Flipkart will also retail its private label brands including MarQ and SmartBuy on Sastodeal’s e-commerce platform with a focus on electronics, homeware, and homeware appliances.

“The partnership with Sastodeal, a homegrown brand like ours, will not just open doors for a wider market reach to our sellers but also allow them to boost their business significantly,” said Flipkart’s head of marketplace, Jagjeet Harode, according to the Kathmandu Post.

As has been the case in India, the now reinstated lockdown in Nepal has given a boost to the country’s e-commerce market with many brands launching online in recent months.

“E-commerce business in Nepal has huge potential as more and more consumers take to online shopping,” said Harode.

“Sastodeal's strategic partnership with Flipkart is a big step towards strengthening the Nepal-India relationship,” said Sastodeal CEO Amun Thapa, Asian News International reported.

“We hope millions of Nepalese consumers and millions of Indian vendors benefit from this partnership.”
