Flipkart opens third grocery fulfilment centre in Amta, West Bengal as demand rises

Flipkart has expanded its fulfilment centre network by opening its third grocery fulfilment centre in Amta, West Bengal. The expansion is in response to a 75% surge in demand for online grocery services since June, 2021.

Flipkart opened a grocery fulfilment centre in Kolkata in June 2021 and, since then, demand has risen by 75% which has necessitated significant expansion in the area, the Press Trust of India reported. The business’ new fulfilment centre in the state measures almost 1.34 lakh square feet and its launch has created around 500 direct and indirect employment opportunities in the area. 
 
“As we scale up our grocery operations across the country to cater to our growing customer base and support local businesses and farmers, east India has emerged as an important, high-growth region for us,” said Flipkart Grocery’s vice president Smrithi Ravichandran, the Press Trust of India reported. 

Now Flipkart has three grocery fulfilment centres in West Bengal, its total warehouse space in the state exceeds 3.8 lakh square feet. The new facility will meet the infrastructure requirements of local micro, small, and medium enterprises, sellers, and local farmers, according to the business. 
 
Flipkart Grocery currently operates in 1,800 cities and 10,000 pin code areas spread across 23 Indian states. The business has opened 23 fulfilment centres measuring a total of 26 lakh square feet in the past two years.
