The Indian e-commerce battle is heating up with two of the biggest players Flipkart & Amazon going all out to claim supremacy in the Indian market. Redeer Etailing Leadership Index report which was recently released had named homegrown online retailer as the most trusted brand ahead of global giant Amazon.

The report was based on the performance of e-commerce firms during the third quarter of the current fiscal which takes into account the Diwali festival weeks.

Refusing to be outperformed by its fiercest rival Flipkart, Amazon has hit back and claimed that the Redseer research firm was poorly informed and termed the Etailing Leadership Index report as speculative. It has also claimed to be the market leading in Indian e-commerce.

Interestingly both Flipkart and Amazon India were neck to neck in last RedSeer E-tailing Leadership Index (ELI) with scores of 92 for the July-September period.

"As Indian ecommerce industry is a nascent one, there is a complete lack of credible market reports with robust methodology. We have noticed poorly informed speculative reports with irrelevant sample sizes whose numbers do not add up to what we are seeing in the industry,” Amazon India spokesperson said in a statement.

"In just four years, Amazon has become the leader in Indian e-commerce and is transforming how India buys and sells. We have been obsessed with what customers deeply care about, primarily massive selection, great value, and maximum convenience," it added.

Flipkart and Amazon are locked in a fierce battle to claim top spot in India’s e-commerce market. Both the firms are investing heavily to scale up its operations and expected to invest billions of dollars in the coming year.
