Flipkart launches pilot project to collect plastic back from customers - Flipkart

As part of the pilot, Flipkart will start collecting plastic packaging back from consumers in seven cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, and Ahmedabad.

The company will ask its consumers to voluntarily participate to hand over plastic packaging to Flipkart delivery staff which will be later recycled and reused by the company.

Flipkart is also providing training to its delivery staff who in turn will be explaining the various facets of this initiative to consumers. The company is expecting high participation by consumers in this initiative and based on the response will expand it to other cities across India.

Commenting on the initiative, Flipkart group’s chief corporate affairs officer Rajneesh Kumar in a statement said, “The recently initiated pilot programme ensures that our biggest stakeholder - consumers, is one of the key enablers of this initiative and will help drive awareness. We believe a collective approach of all stakeholders would help us in achieving the dream of a Swachh and Samridha Bharat, and the country's vision to phase out single-use plastic.”

Flipkart plans to cut down on similar kinds of plastic use by 25 percent and planned to move entirely to recycled plastic consumption in its supply chain by March 2021.
