Flipkart launches new on-delivery QR code payments for customers
On June 7, e-commerce giant Flipkart launched a new contactless, QR-code-based payment facility for all of its pay-on-delivery orders to encourage digital payments.
From Monday, online shoppers can pay for their Flipkart order through any UPI app at the time of delivery by scanning the QR code attached to their purchase, Flipkart announced in a statement. This will enable customers who want to pay for their order digitally to do so when they receive their purchase instead of beforehand, in a move designed to increase consumer trust.
“As the lines between e-commerce marketplace and fintech continue to converge, it becomes imperative to solve for customers' evolving needs and attitudes,” said Flipkart Fintech and Payments Group head Ranjith Boyanapalli, the Press Trust of India reported.
“While the pandemic has urged several consumers to make a shift to online shopping, some trust deficit during checkout remains in pockets.”
The new feature also encourages people to pay for their order digitally instead of with cash which minimises human contact, increasing safety for customers and delivery personnel, according to Flipkart.
The QR payment launch is part of the Walmart-owned business’ plan to bring the next 200 million users onto the e-commerce platform and a response to the increase in UPI payments since the beginning of the pandemic.
