Flipkart has already partnered with five not-for-profit organisations bringing on board around 35,000 artisans in the process which is also expected to give a boost to the company’s product portfolio.

Commenting on the initiative, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, chief executive officer of Flipkart Group in a statement said, "Small businesses are the backbone of Indian economy going back centuries. Through Flipkart Samarth, we are helping traditionally underserved communities access a pan-India market and engage with over 150 million customers.

“The initiative will help us partner with the government and add impetus to various social empowerment schemes. Flipkart Samarth’ will leverage increasing internet penetration in rural India to boost entrepreneurship."

Flipkart has been strengthening its seller base to cater to a wider audience and currently claims to have over one lakh sellers on its platform.

The company had recently simplified the seller on boarding process to make it easier for medium and small businesses (MSMEs) to join the platform to strengthen its seller network.
