As people continue to stay at home during local lockdowns and the second wave of the pandemic, Flipkart has responded to the greater demand for online shopping with a large-scale hiring drive, the business said in a statement, ET Bureau reported. The business has created various virtual training programmes for its direct hires in different aspects of its supply chain to train workers on its safety regulations and practices to counter the spread of Covid-19 at its facilities.

“All new hires will be covered with our healthcare and wellness initiatives to ensure their safety during these testing times,” said Flipkart’s supply chain senior vice president, Hemant Badri, Indo-Asian News Service reported.

Flipkart is also expanding its logistics capabilities with a planned addition of eight lakh square feet in space through five new fulfilment centres scheduled for the next three months. This development is designed to facilitate grocery deliveries in cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad.

During the ongoing local lockdowns, many cities are only permitting online deliveries of ‘essential’ items, in most instances comprising grocery and personal care goods. The business reports currently serving close to 64,000 orders a day and aims to expand its capacity to over 73,000 orders a day with its new staff and planned logistics space.
