Flipkart’s two founders, Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, as well as others employees of the company such as the Sales Director have been accused of cheating by Naveen Kumar, the owner of C-store Company. Kumar, whose business is based in Indiranagar, launched his complaint at the police station in that area. Kumar stated that he had a contract with Flipkart to supply laptops and other electronic goods for the Big Billion Days sale, but that Flipkart lied about having returned certain products.

“Flipkart returned 1,482 units but did not pay for the remaining units. TDS and shipping charges for those units too were not paid. When asked to clear the dues, Flipkart falsely claimed it had returned 3,901 units. By not clearing the dues, they have cheated me to the tune of Rs 99,621,419 [9.96 crore rupees, approximately 1.5 million dollars],” stated Kumar in his official complaint. The Indiranagar police filed the complaint under IPC sections 34 (common intent), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 420 (cheating) and they will now conduct an investigation.

Flipkart was swift to respond to these allegations and said in an official statement: “Flipkart is exploring all available legal possibilities to safeguard its interests, including but not limited to initiating proceedings for defamation against the complainant.” The company also called the allegations “false and baseless” and said: “The FIR appears to be nothing but an endeavour to harass and pressurise the company to succumb to baseless demands.” The investigation is currently ongoing.
