Flipkart appoints Saroj Panigrahi as senior vice president, general counsel

Flipkart has appointed Saroj Panigrahi as senior vice president and general counsel, while Bijoya Roy will transition to the role of vice president and head of legal at the business.

As Flipkart prepares for an initial public offering this year or next, the Walmart-owned e-commerce giant has appointed the former head of JPMorgan’s Indian legal department as its new senior vice president and general counsel, ET Retail reported.
 
“In this role, Saroj will be responsible for all legal matters in Flipkart with particular focus on board management, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance,” Flipkart’s CEO, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, said in the email accessed by the The Economic Times.

Prior to Flipkart, Panigrahi worked at various businesses including Vodafone Group, Reliance Industries, and Accenture. 
 
Krishnamurthy shared that Roy will now report to Panigrahi. Flipkart has made a number of changes to its executives and board as it prepares for its planned IPO.

At the end of 2020, Flipkart brought in four new board members: CEO Krishnamurthy; HDFC CEO Keki Mistry; Walmart’s global chief technology officer Suresh Kumar; and Walmart’s executive vice president for international strategy and development Leigh Hopkins.
