Flipkart announces it is on track to have over 4.2 lakh sellers, MSMEs

Flipkart has announced that it is on track to reach its target of 4.2 lakh sellers and micro, small, and medium enterprises by the end of the year after the e-commerce giant onboarded 75,000 sellers in recent months.

 
Flipkart has come under fire from trade bodies including the Confederation of All India Traders for allegedly harming local businesses via its foreign-owned platform, but Flipkart has responded that it is actually helping local businesses by enabling them to sell online and increasing their customer base. To this end, the business is working to expand its base of MSME sellers, especially in non-metro locations.
 
“The new sellers and MSME base predominantly come from tier-II and -III markets such as Agra, Indore, Jaipur, Panipat, Rajkot, Surat, and many others,” the business said in a statement, the Press Trust of India reported.

“The Flipkart marketplace platform has also witnessed the rise in categories such as general merchandise, home and kitchen, and personal care.”
 
As rising numbers of rural shoppers begin making purchases online, a growing number of rural businesses are also taking the leap. Flipkart’s observations are in line with the wider trends in Indian retail of increased rural adoption of online shopping and increased personal care sales online. 
 
Flipkart is also gearing up for its largest sale season of the year.

“This festive season, MSMEs and seller ecosystems across the country have come forth even more resilient and rejuvenated and we are excited to support their learning, financial, operational and business needs as they offer a wide selection of products on our platform,” said the business’ chief corporate affairs officer, Rajneesh Kumar, the Press Trust of India reported.
