E-commerce giant Flipkart has deployed over 2,000 electric vehicles across 90 Indian cities as part of its delivery fleet ahead of its upcoming festive ‘Big Billion Days’ sale to bolster its logistics capacity sustainably.

“These 2,000 electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers have been deployed across 90 cities in India and will help deliver smiles this festive season sustainably,” said Flipkart in a statement, the Press Trust of India reported.

The new fleet of electric vehicles is part of Flipkart’s wider plan to deploy 25,000 electric vehicles across numerous areas of its supply chain by the year 2030. The business aims to eventually have a 100% electric delivery fleet, a commitment it made as part of The Climate Group's EV100 campaign.

“We are proud to uphold our promise to our customers to bring them a sustainable festive season with each order,” said Flipkart’s head of sustainability and social responsibility, Mahesh Pratap Singh, the Press Trust of India reported.

“The Flipkart teams have come together to ensure our delivery executives are delivering to thousands of pin-codes across 90 cities in more than 2,000 electric vehicles.”

The new electric vehicles will be used in cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Rampur among others. The business has also gone plastic-free with millions of its packages in order to decrease its environmental impact. The business eliminated single-use plastic in its own supply chain last year and now over 75% of its seller fulfilled shipments also use sustainable packaging.
