Flipkart acquires Scapic to enhance customer experience

Walmart-owned Flipkart group has acquired augmented reality (AR) firm Scapic for an undisclosed sum to enhance customer experience on its platforms.

With the acquisition of Scapic, Flipkart will own a 100-percent stake in the company and onboard a team of developers and designers.
 
Scapic will help Flipkart group firms with camera experiences, virtual storefronts and new opportunities for brand advertising across categories including fashion.

Commenting on the acquisition, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO of Flipkart Group, in a statement said: “This year has accelerated online adoption - be it education, communication or shopping, as people prioritise health and safety. As we make investments that focus on developing and nurturing the retail ecosystem, we are also committed to making our platform easier to navigate and richer for consumers in terms of content and experience.”
 
Sai Krishna V K and Ajay P V, founders of Scapic, in a joint statement said: “Scapic’s no-code platform helps create immersive experiences across categories such as fashion, furniture and electronics. We are deeply excited about the opportunity that is being presented to scale this up further and make millions of shoppers in India experience the potential of AR.”
 
Scapic was founded in 2017 by Sai Krishna V K and Ajay P V and is based out of Bangalore.
