As the first day of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) kicked off on the 16th July, a master class was held and industry insiders such as Tina Tahiliani, a store owner and online retailer, shared their knowledge of the fashion industry with the next generation of designers. The fashion blogger Kayaan Shiraz discussed the relationship between bloggers and designers in the masterclass and Sabrina Chopra acted as mentor to the group.

This winter/festive season at LFW will also feature a runway show and five Gen Next designers will show their designs. One of the labels that has been picked to do so are Bloni by Akshat Bansal from New Delhi. Bansal mixes imported Italian fabric with Indian woven textiles for his androgynous designs and has previously worked with designers such as Tarun Tahiliani.

Aanam by Sumiran Sharma is another label that will grace the runway and his collection uses draping and has a zero waste policy. Saaksha and Kinni by Saaksha Parekh and Kinnari Kamat who are based in Mumbai will also show their designs and they use metal thread to create their signature dark embroidery.

Deepak Pathak’s Integument uses suiting fabrics for a dark minimalism and the collection he will show focuses on shapes and form. Finally, Untitled Co. by Delhi based Shenali Sema and Rinzin Lama will show a collection that focuses on micro pleating and features kimonos, wrap skirts, and knotted pants.
