The first ever edition of East India Fashion Week will feature a mix of runway shows, awards, and handloom exhibitors. A total of 26 local and national designers, 45 local and national female models, and 20 male models are set to take part in the event. There will also be three categories of designers comprising emerging designers, established designers, and celebrity designers. Around 20 exhibitors are scheduled to display a selection of handloom textile items, handicrafts, jewellery, and food.

The fashion week will take place at Guwahati’s Vivanta by Taj and will also feature the Weaver’s Excellence Award, Purbashree, which will be presented to Anu Rajbongshi from Sualkuchi on January 11.

“We sincerely believe that the event would be the best medium locally available for the aspiring models and the designers to get hands-on experience and exposure to the global fashion industry by getting associated with a glamorous and large canvas,” said Medha Saikia, the Founder and President of the Northeast India Fashion and Design Council.

“The main principle of this fashion week is to bring out new designers and support them, giving exposure to their creativity from a single platform,” said Meghali Das, secretary of the Council. “We shall try to make it a fixed-date annual event so that national buyers can also fix their procurements accordingly. The East India fashion Week will give the input suppliers an assessment of the annual requirements of materials and services. The event will give an idea of the emerging fashion trends in Northeast India for the next season. We hope that the Northeast India fashion industry will have a structured growth with this fashion week,” said Das.
