South Korean-owned sportswear brand Fila has collaborated with Mriga Kapadiya and Amrit Kumar’s Norblack Norwhite to create a fusion streetwear collection that features the Indian brand's signature bandhani print and gender-neutral pieces. The collection will drop on November 24.

Speaking about the collection to Vogue India, Kapadiya said: “We have always unabashedly celebrated textiles, colours and patterns, so applying our aesthetic within the bounds of Fila has helped us push the envelope on our creative capacity, and also led to many firsts—designing shoes and socks has been one of our favourite parts of the process.”

The collection takes athleisure as its starting point but, by using Norblack Norwhite’s signature bandhani print and rainbow detailing, it has a distinctly modern Indian flavour. The gender neutral pieces also nod to Norblack Norwhite’s androgynous aesthetic but the Fila brand is equally represented with large logos on baseball jerseys, t-shirts, and hoodies. Accessories are also on offer and include shoes, socks and a fanny pack.

Fila stands out among international sportswear brands for pursuing India-specific projects and decentralising creative control from its headquarters and this Indian fusion collection acts as a prime example.

“We wanted to apply our love for pattern and colour, while keeping the creations breathable and digestible in the sporty space,” explained Kumar. “We also had a fair amount of fun playing with our colour palette for the classic Fila logo.”
