Fast Retailing to donate Rs 22 crore to support India Covid-19 relief efforts - Uniqlo

The company will donate the funds to two non-profit organizations Give India and Akshaya Patra Foundation. The funds will be utilised to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and supplies of essential commodities to low-income daily wage workers.

Additionally, Uniqlo will also provide more than 600,000 of its airism masks to front-line workers and those providing essential services.

Commenting on the initiative, Tadashi Yanai, chairman of Fast Retailing, in a statement said: “Fast Retailing is committed to helping the people of India, especially at this critical time. This is an emergency that requires global solidarity, and we hope that our contribution will support the immediate needs of those on the ground and help put the country on track to recovery.”

Tomohiko Sei, CEO of Uniqlo India added: “Uniqlo was welcomed into the Indian community 19 months ago and as a global company we are glad to be able to contribute in this challenging time.”

Uniqlo had entered the Indian market in October 2019 with its first store in New Delhi, and currently has a total of six stores in the country.
