“The theme for this year’s campaign is Manifesto for a Fashion Revolution,” said Fashion Revolution India’s founder Suki Dusanj-Lenz in a press release on April 26. “To mark the tenth anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse, we are #RememberingRanaPlaza and using our 10-point Manifesto to demand a safe, just and transparent global fashion industry.”

Fashion Revolution Week kicked off on April 22 with events including an Instagram live session, a movie screening in Delhi, and numerous workshops across Bengaluru including an upcycling workshop. On April 23, Pink City Feministhosted a talk on body image and mass consumerism in Jaipur.

April 24 featured a panel on creativity in Kolkata and April 25’s schedule included discussions on the Rana Plaza tragedy across Peal Academy campuses. The rest of the week will include events in Kolkata, Gurgaon, and Goa among others.

“Fashion Revolution Week is an opportunity for us to spark meaningful conversations and advocate for a more sustainable fashion industry,” said Fashion Revolution India’s country head Shruti Singh. “In India, where the fashion industry is a significant contributor to the economy, it's essential that we recognise the power we have to positively impact both people and the planet.”

Ten years ago, the Rana Plaza collapse in Bangladesh killed many garment workers and highlighted the industry’s reliance on unethical labour practices. Fashion Revolution advocates for securing fair pay for industry workers through global initiatives.
