The new FabIndia store in Kolkata’s Forum Courtyard Mall retails the brand’s range of Indian ethnic wear, Indian-style causal wear, accessories, and homeware. The store joins a recently opened experience centre which is located on Loudon Street in the city as FabIndia focuses its current expansion plans on eastern India.

“The [experience] centre in Kolkata is spread across 10,000 square feet,” FabIndia’s managing director Viney Singh told the Times of India about the brand’s latest opening. “The typical investment for such centres is Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,500 per square foot.” Singh also shared that the business is expanding with a franchise model and so most of the planned stores will be franchise-owned.

The new Kolkata experience centre includes a café, interior design studio, organic wellness centre, clothing alteration studio, and a children’s area among other features. The centre will also hold interactive events and already hosted an art workshop last Saturday.

FabIndia plans to open 10 more stores in eastern India in the next phase of its expansion to add to its current total of 45 stores in the region. The brand has a current total of 13 experience centres in India and Singh stated that he expects the concept stores to account for 30 percent of the total retail space by the end of 2019. The brand also has 14 international stores at present.
