Ethnic wear and lifestyle brand FabIndia is increasing its focus on sustainability and has launched and expanded a number of product lines which create clothing and homeware from recycled goods.

Recycled and sustainable products are becoming an increasing part of FabIndia's offering - FabIndia

“With over 100,000 metric tonnes of waste generated every day in India, waste management remains one of the biggest issues that the country is facing,” FabIndia announced in a press release on July 15. “Landfills are being stretched to the limit, and the continuously mounting garbage is contaminating natural resources like soil and groundwater.”

FabIndia’s ‘Shunya’ line of rugs made from recycled PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) yarn has continued to expand to the extent that, after donating Rs 100 from every rug sold to Delhi-based NGO Chintan, the business has donated a total of Rs 55,000 to the foundation, it announced. By using PET yarn, the collect turns waste into a usable product.

The brand has also incorporated the traditional ‘Gudri’ technique into its clothing collections. The technique patches together fabric scraps from tailors and textile factories to use up rejected, leftover, and unused fabric scraps and reduce textile waste. The brand sources these textiles mainly from Rajasthan and Gujarat, it said.

FabIndia’s sustainable efforts are also designed to create employment opportunities, according to the brand. The business has expanded to total a network of 50,000 artisans, 12,000 farmers, and 900 vendors located across the country.
