An array of fashion designers including Rohit Bal, Rajesh Pratap Singh, and Rina Dhaka joined Bollywood celebrities such as Arjun Rampal and Aditi Rao Hydari to celebrate Khadi on February 21. The event, organised by FLO and the AIWEFA celebrated both Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary and 100 years of the traditional and sustainable textile, Khadi.

The “Khadi Goes Global” fashion showcase saw Rohit Bal present a collection of pastel hued Khadi sarees and lehengas as well as menswear. Arjun Rampal closed the show in a black sherwani and embroidered shawl as Bal’s showstopper. Calling Khadi the “fabric of the soul,” Bal told News Scroll: "It's the national fabric of our country. It stands for freedom, independence and self discovery. It's the fabric of now, before and the future."

Rina Dhaka followed Bal on the runway with a Khadi collection to honour the victims of the recent Pulwama attack. Dhaka’s collection was white and beige and garments read “Jai Jawaan”.

"The message is my way of expressing the current scene,” said Dhaka. “For me it is very important. In my way I am also trying to tell with this story my message to have gratitude for our soldiers."

Rajesh Pratap Singh presented a white collection of Khadi dhotis, pants, shirts, and sherwanis. The Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari then closed the entire event in a white and gold lehenga set by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.
