Following an inquiry made by the Meerut Divisional Commissioner, a FIR has been lodged against the Grand Venice Mall. The FIR, which was made three days ago, reports that the land on which the mall was built was categorised as suitable for a park and not for commercial use.

The FIR also directly accuses the mall’s owner, Monty Bhasin, of persuading government officials to change the land category from “park use” to “commercial use” without following proper procedure. It was actually one of the mall’s investors, Brij Mohan Sharma, who filed a complaint against the mall’s owner.

However, the mall has so far denied all allegations in statements made by company spokespersons. “The complainant is resorting to arm-twisting tactics. A case was lodged because there was a written complaint,” said a spokesperson for the Grand Venice Mall in a statement claiming that the land was always intended for commercial use.

The FIR is categorised under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record).
