FDCI to present Nitin Bal Chauhan and Akaaro at new showcase on day one of Lakmé Fashion Week In Partnership with FDCI

The Fashion Design Council of India will present a new showcase format with brands Nitin Bal Chauhan and Akaaro. The ‘FDCI Innovators’ showcase will take place on day one of Lakmé Fashion Week In Partnership with FDCI on March 9 in Mumbai.

The showcase will feature different perspectives on French culture, envisaged by designer Nitin Bal Chauhan and label Akaaro by Gaurav Jai Gupta, the FDCI announced in a press release on March 1. Nitin Bal Chauhan will present new collection ‘The Outsider’, which is inspired by 1940s French novel L’Etranger (The Stranger) by Albert Camus. The collection plays with the idea of the absurd, a theme explored in the philosophical book, and also uses layers of textures and 3D hand embroidery across clothes, shoes, and headgear.
 
Akaaro by Gaurav Jai Gupta will showcase a collection titled ‘The Sky Is Mine’ which was inspired by a trip to Paris and the colour ‘International Klein Blue’ created by French artist Yves Klein. The collection will features garments made from handloom fabrics using experimental materials including stainless steel, merino wool, and monofilament silk and cotton.

“At FDCI, we are constantly working towards and launching initiatives that bring to the fore, some of the most talented designers and labels in the country,” said FDCI chairman Sunil Sethi in a press release. “As we enter a new era of design, it is extremely important for us to showcase these voices whose creations will set the course for a varied approach to fashion. Both these designers have shown promising fashion moments in the past and have distinct perspective on the idea of fashion and design. We are very excited for the world to see this presentation on the runway this upcoming season.”
