Designer Amit Aggarwal showcased his ‘Monaco from the heart of Kashi’, an unconventional bridal collection on Day 3 of Lakme Fashion Week with Bollywood actress Esha Gupta sizzling the ramp as showstopper.

Esha Gupta made a stunning appearance as the showstopper in a blue and sunflower gold lehenga. The radiating sun motif was interpreted through a maze of flowers done with recycled materials and intricate hand embroidery and boasted 600 hours of craftsmanship. The outfit was teamed with the designer’s signature gold moulded blouse.

Inspired by the art and interiors of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco and Opera De Monte Carlo, the collection's metallic palette of gold, silver, pewter and copper was accented with emerald, midnight blue and wine.

Continuing with sustainability in couture, Amit restored rich vintage Banarasi sarees in his signature style and three-dimensional hand embroideries. Circular art nouveau patterns were interpreted with zari and recycled cord intricately embroidered in flower forms.

The designer accessorised the Monaco-inspired ensembles with ‘batwa belts’, a truly modern interpretation of a classic Indian purse.

Designer Sangeeta Boochra crafted silver tribal and polki jewellery and head pieces. Metallic heels by Steve Madden perfectly complemented the collection.

“I think the collaborative efforts of Lakme and IMG getting a place of history along with a creative force such as us, opens up a pandora of possibilities. Design, inspiration, creation and commerce strengthen with such collaborations,” said Amit Aggarwal, in a statement.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajeev Nangia, India Director, Monaco Government Tourist Bureau said, “Amit Aggarwal's collection was truly in line with the mood of magnificent celebrations and weddings, one can picture at destination Monaco. Practicing sustainability in Monaco is also of prime importance and we appreciate Amit’s effort to maintain the years old heritage of ‘Banarsi Saris and handwork’ in this collection."

Dia Mirza, Kiara Advani, Sona Mohapatra and Manasi Scott were also seen in the front rows for the show.
