Emami plans to continue to launch new products for growth

Fast-moving consumer goods business Emami held 40 product launches in the 2021 financial year and believes this is the key to continued growth under the current climate.

“This contrarian streak had helped Emami to capture consumer attention and expanded its product portfolio,” said Emami’s managing director, Sushil Goenka, the Press Trust of India reported.
 
The economic strain caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and local and national lockdowns in the previous financial year led to weaker consumer demand. Emami decided to continue to push for expansion where other businesses contracted which had a positive impact on the business, according to Goenka.

The business plans to continue this bullish expansion plan over the course of the current fiscal year by launching new product lines and extending both the reach and offerings of its current brand selection. The business also plans to expand into new product categories to enter new markets.
 
Emami also intends to focus on expanding its online retail services to respond to the continuing trend for online shopping across FMCG product categories. The business has reported a significant and continued demand for personal and home hygiene products since the start of the pandemic and plans to continue to expand its offerings in this sector. 
 
The company saw its international sales increase by 12% in the 2021 financial year, despite the global upheaval of the pandemic. It was Emami’s expanding retail footprint in the ASEAN region which resulted in this growth, according to Goenka.
