“This year monsoon is quite good and we hope that rural demand will peak up,” said Emami’s director Harsh Agarwal, the Times of India reported. “Last year, the rural demand was better than the urban one as it was less affected by Covid-19. This year. there is good rural demand so far.”

Zandu is one of Emami’s ‘power brands’ along with Navratna, Kesh King, and Boroplus, which also saw strong sales last quarter and contribute around 80% of the company’s revenue. Zandu retails a range of natural health and beauty supplements and is currently valued at Rs 750 crore, according to Agarwal.

The business is also on the hunt for further acquisitions to drive growth including startups, digital businesses, and those in the traditional space. Over the past ten years, some of Emami’s largest scale acquisitions have been Zandu as well as Mentho Plus and Kesh King.

Emami currently has 15 brands in its portfolio. In the 2021 financial year, the business spent around Rs 458 crore on brands which constitutes around 15.9% of its revenue.
