The garments and name of the collection reflected Singh’s desire to create wearable and sustainable fashion.

Loose, flowing shapes dominated Eka’s winter festive collection at LFW and chiffon dresses were contrasted with oversized, tailored coats. Chiffon was also layered over gingham and under dresses to create multi-dimensional textiles and garments themselves were layered too with camisoles over simple tops.

The winter festive collection’s colour palette consisted of slate grey dark brown with pops of mustard yellow and orange. Hand block prints were created especially for the collection and these were mixed with stripes and checks.

Singh used hand-woven and hand-spun cotton for the collection as well as sheer textiles which added movement. The models has low ponytails and wore blue or clear acrylic circle earrings. Loafers with large frills came in blue or orange and statement painted red eyeshadow added further pops of colour.

Eka, meaning “one” in Sanskrit, was launched by Rina Singh in 2011 and the brand’s name reflects the singular effort of many individuals. Singh was the Indian finalist for the 2016 International Woolmark Prize and was also a runner up for the Vogue Fashion Fund the same year.

The brand’s aim is to reflect Singh’s ethos of simple living inspired by her upbringing in a family of agriculturalists. The brand is available at multi-brand boutiques in India, the UK, US, Korea, Spain, UAE, and other countries.

Lakmé Fashion Week is currently running from August 22 to 26 at the St Regis in Mumbai. The winter festive 2018 edition of LFW is sponsored by IMG Reliance, Nexa, Etihad Airways, Tencel, and Nokia among others.
