Apr 2, 2020
As e-commerce businesses look to solve logistics issues and deliver essential goods to their customers under lockdown, multi-brand retailers Flipkart and BigBasket are in talks to use taxis to deliver goods.
“To achieve the objective of moving essential supplies across the country, from our sellers/ vendors to the customers, our teams are exploring all possible collaboration ideas, including having conversations with cab aggregators, etc,” said a Flipkart spokesperson, TNN reported.
One of the taxi forms Flipkart is in talks with is Uber, a source told TNN, and the tie-up would launch in 10 cities. Taxi drivers would pick up goods at Flipkart’s warehouses and deliver them to customers.
BigBasket also told customers that it is in discussions with Uber as well as a number of other taxi firms and restaurant workers to augment its delivery fleet. The business announced on Facebook on Thursday that it is currently operating at 40% capacity and hopes to work at a higher capacity soon.
BigBasket also announced on Facebook on April 2 that it plans to start operating in Indore again from April 3 and in Kochi soon. The business has increased its server capacity by 50% to deal with its large influx of orders.
