Founded by Mathura-born entrepreneur Priyanka Arora in 2021, Draupadi has expanded its customer base across India through retailing on Amazon India. The brand’s vibrant, patchwork style handbags are now also available internationally through its new Amazon storefront as Draupadi has ambitious expansion plans.

The brand aims to highlight the amount of material waste generated by the saree making process and promote sustainable fashion while reducing the industry’s carbon footprint, Draupadi announced on Instagram. General garment production wastes around 15% of all fabric used, the brand told Elle India, and these offcuts can take up to 200 years to decompose. By using offcuts to make its accessories, Draupadi aims to reduce the sector’s toll on the environment while celebrating India’s textile heritage.

The brand’s latest collection of accessories includes tote bags, large luggage and sports bags, decorative handbags, and pouches among others. With eclectic mixes of prints and colours, the collection has an eclectic and vintage-inspired feel.

As well as retailing its accessories line, Draupadi is also focusing on building a sustainable fashion community on Instagram by sharing infographics about the industry. “If fashion is your expression, it shouldn’t be selfish, irresponsible, and thoughtless,” wrote the brand on Instagram.
