The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has created a control room to track delivery of essential goods in India during the 21-day lockdown and work to alleviate logistical difficulties.

The DPIIT plans to log difficulties faced by businesses delivering essential goods during the ongoing nationwide lockdown and take the matters up with the relevant state governments, police, and district authorities. The organisation will monitor the status of shipments in real time to ensure communities are provided with ample food and personal care items.
“In the event of any manufacturing, transporter, distributor, wholesaler or e-commerce companies facing ground level difficulties in transport and distribution of goods or mobilisation of resources, the same may be informed to this department,” said the DPIIT in a statement, the Press Trust of India reported.

The DPIIT has also set up a dedicated email address and phone line for grievances relating to the delivery of essential goods. A number of e-commerce platforms including Grofers reported that their delivery personal faced trouble with police even after being officially allowed to deliver essential goods. The DPIIT plans to officially address any complaints on the matter.
The nationwide lockdown is scheduled to last until April 14. Confirmed coronavirus cases in India crossed the 600 mark on Wednesday and the virus has reached all corners of the nation.
