Dolly J presented an exuberant take on delicate femininity with a fashion film for the brand's latest collection ‘Ah-Lam’ at India Couture Week’s digital edition on Wednesday.

Dolly J’s latest couture collection was unveiled as three models ran into a mysterious tunnel and looked through a portal to see a glittering hotel where they found themselves dressed in feathers, sequins, and pastel-hued lehengas. Broadcast across the Fashion Design Council of India’s social media accounts including Facebook, the digital presentation was both opulent and dream-like.

“Comfortable and fresh are two things that are predominately on my mind, some experiment, others follow trends, I feel Indian weddings are still traditional so one has to walk the tightrope as the bride wants ingenuity,” said designer Dolly J, about the inspiration for her collection, the FDCI reported.

Dolly J created a liquid silver textile, woven specially for the collection, and used it in full skirts and figure hugging bustier style tops. Crystal encrusted belts added another level of sparkle and ombre highlights added dimension.

Inspired by a resurgence of 1990s fashion in thrift shops she browsed around New York, Dolly J created a modern take on the decade’s signature shimmer.

“Texturing is the key, last year I had woven fabrics, this year it is lurex, with stones and crystals,” said the designer.

India Couture Week is organised by the FDCI in association with the Hindustan Times and runs until August 29 online. This digital edition is its second to date, after going online due to the pandemic.
