Dmart to launch first store in Delhi

Supermarket chain, Dmart - which retails clothing, personal care items, and other fast moving consumer goods - is planning to launch its first store in Delhi, as it continues to expand out of west and east India.

Dmart’s parent company, Avenue Supermarts Limited, has taken over a 50,000-square-foot plot in Karkadrooma, Delhi and plans to open Dmart’s first brick-and-mortar outlet in the capital, ET Bureau reported. The business plans to open several Dmart stores in the area in the near future if it is able to find appropriate plots of land. 
 
“They are scouting for space for four to five stores in Delhi NCR,” an anonymous source told the Economic Times. The business has been continuously opening stores and opened seven outlets in the third quarter of the financial year ending in December, 2019 according to a recent report by brokerage firm ICICI Securities, accessed by ET Bureau. 

Dmart stores retails several product categories including footwear, clothing, accessories, home textiles, children’s wear, luggage, and homewares, as well as groceries, according to the brand’s website.  
 
Avenue Supermarts currently operates around 200 stores with a focus on Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.

Dmart stores are mainly located around Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. Avenue Supermarts was founded by Radhakishan Damani, who is India’s second richest person, following Mukesh Ambani.
