DMart operator Avenue Supermarts sees online business more than double in FY22

DMart’s operator Avenue Supermarts saw its online fast moving consumer goods and grocery business’ sales more than double in the 2022 financial year to total Rs 1,667 crore but its net loss widened.

Avenue Supermarts’ subsidiary Avenue E-Commerce reported a net loss of Rs 142 crore in the 2022 financial year, up from Rs 81 crore a year before, ET Bureau reported. The 2022 fiscal saw the business expand its DMart Ready online business out of Mumbai which led to mounting losses but increased online sales. 
 
“During the financial year 2021 to 2022 it expanded its service coverage to include over 500 pin codes in nine cities,” wrote Avenue Supermarts in its annual report, accessed by ET Retail. “AEL also operates a small format grocery store under the brand name DMart MiniMax. It has two DMart MiniMax stores- one in Mumbai and another in Hyderabad. Avenue Supermarts has invested about Rs 492.76 crore in its online subsidiary.” 

DMart is positioned in the value segment of the market and retails a wide range of products including personal care goods, makeup, fashion, and groceries. DMart runs 284 stores across India.
