DLF has begun construction of a 5.75-lakh-square-feet premium mall in Goa with an investment of Rs 300 crore to Rs 350 crore over the coming two years, the Times of India reported.

“It will be the best mall of Goa to the standards which our malls are,” DLF Rental Business’ managing director Sriram Khattar told the Press Trust of India in an interview.

The business also has plans to construct a Mall of India in Gurugram which will measure 25 lakh square feet. Construction should kick off before the end of the year, according to Khattar. The project will require an investment of between Rs 1,500 crore and Rs 1,600 crore, excluding the cost of the land.

DLF sees a large potential for growth in the organised retail sector following the relaxation of Covid-19 retail restrictions, which were especially strict concerning shopping malls. As well as its two upcoming malls, DLF plans to launch three to four new high street shopping centres beginning with developments in Gurugram and Delhi.

“We have started construction on one in DLF-phase 5, Gurgaon, which we are calling Summit Plaza,” said Khattar. “We are likely to start one in Moti Nagar, Delhi near our DLF-Midtown project. We are also planning one or two more of these.”

DLF currently runs eight retail properties, including malls and shopping centres, and its main presence is in the Delhi NCR. With a current total retail footprint of 42 lakh square feet, DLF runs some of the country’s largest malls.
