Dior heading to Marrakech for its next cruise show

The house of Dior has decided to make Marrakech the location of its next cruise show.

Dior will stage its cruise 2020 catwalk show in the Moroccan imperial city on April 29, a spokesperson for the house confirmed to FashionNetwork.com on Friday.

The trip to Marrakech follows Dior cruise shows in Chantilly, north of Paris, where the theme was Mexico, and escaramuza riders rode around the famed equestrian center.  A year before, Dior’s designer Maria Grazia Chiuri took cruise to the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve in Calabasas, California, a remote mountaintop for her Western inspired collection. A year before that, the house staged cruise 2017 in Blenheim Palace, in an ode to all things refined and British.

Ironically, Marrakech is far more associated with Dior’s crosstown rival, Yves Saint Laurent, where that designer kept a long-time private riad and Majorelle Gardens. The Yves Saint Laurent Museum opened in Marrakech in 2017.

In effect, Dior will kick off the cruise, or as Anglo-Saxons term it, resort season in late April: followed by Chanel in the Grand Palais on May 3; Prada in New York on May 2; and Louis Vuitton, also in the Big Apple on May 8.
