Dior Homme names Yoon of Ambush as jewelry designer

Kim Jones has named Yoon, the joint founder of the Ambush label, to be the new jewelry designer of Dior Homme.

The choice marks the first major aesthetic and executive decision by Jones since he joined Dior this month. The UK designer celebrated her arrival on his Instagram account with a photo of Yoon inside the Dior Homme studio on rue de Marignan.

“First day at work our new Jewellery designer @yoon_ambush,” read Jones’ text, completed with several emoji hearts. The news provoked some 7,000 likes and over 160 comments, all very much positive. On Tuesday, Jones officially began at Dior, announcing his first day at work by posting an image of his new Christian Dior Couture work pass.

Yoon, a Korean-American brought up in Seattle, Washington, is known for her playful jewelry with mini silver teddy bear pendants; gold safety pin necklaces; funky mini hand objects and cool high-tech headphones.

A graphic artist by training, Yoon partnered with her husband, rapper Verbal, to create the brand Ambush, though she is very much the principal designer. The pair have also partnered on projects with Sacai, Colette and Kitsuné and appeared in a global ad campaign for Louis Vuitton, where Jones was formerly the menswear designer. Yoon was also a 2017 LVMH Prize finalist, the luxury conglomerate that controls Dior.

Yoon’s first jewelry ideas will appear in Jones’ debut collection for Dior Homme during Paris Men’s Fashion Week in June.
