Diksha Khanna presented a collection designed for “the millennial Arabian woman”, as described by the Fashion Design Council of India. Presenting on day one of LMIFW, sustainable fashion day, Khanna mixed sustainable weaves with her signature experimental aesthetic.

Khanna specialises in distressed denim sarees and various interpretations of denim make their way down the runway along with knitwear and metallic bronze textiles. Floor length knitted dresses featuring frayed edges and appliqué details represented the comfortable aspect of the collection and chocolate brown and deep bronze lame suits and evening dresses provided glamour.

Speaking to Verve recently about her use of denim, Khanna said: “I don’t see any other fabric that still retains so much strength after being distressed. When I started working with denim, I did not think of its commercial viability. So many people have appreciated our experiments, but denim is still considered a fabric for the masses in India and hasn’t entered into the luxury or designer segment yet. However, times are changing and people are willing to pay for something slightly more avant-garde.” Khanna also stated that she hopes to put Indian denim on the global map.

LMIFW began on March 13 and will run until March 16 at the Jawaharlal Stadium in New Delhi. Organised by the FDCI, the event runs twice a year.
