SRK completed its charitable pledge and distributed over three lakh rotis, 55,000 kilograms of food grains, and over 120 ‘grocery kits’ to migrant workers and their families around Surat, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reported. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Surat Municipal Corporation and non-profit Chhayado Foundation which provides free meals to people in Surat.

“These efforts were taken to ensure that amidst this pandemic, all get their daily meals and are not worried about food; because Surat has helped craft our lives and it’s our duty to give back to the city in such times of need,” a SRK employee who volunteered with the distribution drive told the GJEPC. “We are working on the same and looking at more ways in extending our support to the government and SMC’s efforts.”

SRK operates numerous diamond manufacturing facilities in Surat. The business also took part in arranging daily meals for the close to 500 staff members of Surat Municipal Corporation.

Surat’s diamond industry, which has been experiencing a slowdown since last year, has struggled with business grinding to a halt during lockdown. Under the new ‘Unlock 1.0’ regulations, diamond manufacturing units are beginning to restart operations at a limited capacity.
