The collection gets its inspiration from old Persian cities and is divided into three sub-collections: Kalamkari, Nakshband, and Farsh. The rugs are hand knotted from natural, hand-spun silk and hand-carded wool and Valaya has incorporated design elements from his clothing collections into the rugs.

The carpets mix bold and monochrome geometric patterns reminiscent of Islamic art with brightly coloured depictions of nature including birds and flowers. Figures also appear in the rugs and the rich colour schemes for all three sub-collections bring to mind Valaya’s traditional wear designs which are often in deep hues and heavy textiles.

Valaya’s Isfahan collection will be showcased at India Design ID 2018 which is taking place from February 22 to 25 at the NSIC Grounds in Okhla, New Delhi. The event will showcase an array of architecture, homeware, and interior design.

Valaya, who hails from New Delhi, started his eponymous label in 1992 with his brother TJ Singh. Valaya is a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and was named as the first global brand ambassador for Swarovski.
