Design Fabric Festival ongoing in Mumbai

The first ever edition of Design Fabric Festival is currently taking place in Mumbai from March 29 to 31 at Famous Studios in Mahalaxmi and designers from India and abroad are participating.

The event describes itself as “India’s first multi-disciplinary design festival” and includes an array of talks, workshops, exhibits, panel discussions, networking events, and parties across Mumbai, centred around Mahalaxmi’s Famous Studios. Day one, March 29, saw a number of design based workshops, a film screening, work sessions, and a party.

March 30 includes design exhibitions from Adam J Kurtz, Sameer Kulavoor, and Tuesday Bassen. A panel on graphic storytelling in India is followed by a fashion show by Katie Rodgers and Bodice who are showing their latest collections. The panel talk of the day addresses whether fashion can be ethical and sustainable and includes the designer Rahul Mishra. Live music will take place and fashion imagery in India will also be discussed followed by a night of parties.

March 31 will include more exhibitions and a panel discussion on Indian heritage in design. Another round of exhibitions and performances will take place followed by another round of parties. The event is sponsored by Asian Paints, We Transfer, and Istituto Marangoni among others.

The event also features a number of pop-up stores including Idam with sustainable home and lifestyle products, Mama Souk with bags and accessories aiming to bring art to the masses, Kulture Shop graphic art, and Taxi Fabric’s designer platform. Indie Culture will be showcasing its modern leatherwear and Zines 101 by Bombay Underground will be representing the art press.
