Delhi to transform Kashmere Gate ISBT into retail hub

The government plans to update the Kashmere Gate inter-state bus terminal to add an array of retail outlets and turn it into a shopping hub as part of the Delhi state government’s Grade-A Retail and Food Spaces Scheme.

A wide range of retail outlets will be opened within the bus terminal as well as food outlets to create an experiential shopping hub as part of the state government’s wider plan to augment many of the city’s services, TNN reported. The government cited the premium location and heavy traffic passing through the ISBT as promising signs for the commercial success of the retail destination. 
 
The Delhi government has asked its transport department to identify 10 bus terminals which could be suitable for a retail and food revamp. The transport department is expected to be starting this project at Kashmere Gate, sources told TNN. The project is also part of the state government’s wider plan to create 20 lakh jobs to boost the economy and improve its citizens’ living standards. 

The last major revamp the Kashmere Gate ISBT underwent was between 2011 and 2013 when it was provided with a number of modern amenities. The new revamp plan will not only update the space but will also augment the retail capacity of the surrounding area.
