Jun 14, 2022
The Delhi government plans to revive and redevelop five markets within the metro to make them international standard and as part of a wider push to create employment opportunities.

“We have finalised the names of five markets to be redeveloped in the first phase,” said Delhi’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on June 13, the Press Trust of India reported. “We have also listed out their USPs. Kamla Nagar, for instance, is a youth hangout zone, Khari Baoli is known for the best spices.”
The Delhi government aims to ameliorate both the services available at the markets and their overall look and aesthetic to encourage footfall and business alike. The Delhi government will also hold a design competition to find local creative talents to contribute to the redevelopment plan.
The market redevelopment initiative is part of a wider reaching state government plan to create more jobs to improve citizens’ livelihoods. The employment generation plan was outlined in the state’s 'Rozgar [Employment] Budget’ which was disseminated in March and states the Delhi government’s aim to create 20 lakh jobs in the area by 2027, India Today reported. The budget has a value of Rs 75,800 crore.
