Decathlon launches underwater sports brand Subea
After making paddle board brand Itiwit a fully fledge offering in early March, Decathlon has unveiled its latest sporting feat with the release of underwater sports brand Subea.. The new label Subea was officially launched in March, and is dedicated to scuba diving, snorkelling and spear fishing. Decathlon, whose global water sports headquarters is in Hendaye, The Netherlands, will unveil the new Subea website in April.
With some forty items under the brand name, Subea's mainstay piece is the EasyBreath mask. Launched in 2014, the facial mask is made for snorkelling and has already won an award for innovation. The mask has seen a 25% drop in its price in 2017, down to 29.99 euros and is being marketed to the American market via e-commerce. Decathlon doesn't have a physical store presence yet in the US.
The sports retailer, which manages some 25 brands such as Kalenji, Kipsta, Domyos and Wed’ze, saw revenues surpass the 10 billion euros mark in 2016, up 12% on last year.
The northern France company, which belongs to the Mulliez group and celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, is present in 28 countries with 1,176 stores.
