De Beers partners with the International Institute of Gemology in India for diamond education courses

Jewellery brand De Beers has partnered with the International Institute of Gemology in India to hold diamond jewellery education courses the country to increase knowledge and consumer trust.

The partnership will first focus on taking the De Beers Group online Diamond Foundation Course to India. The course teaches students about the entire diamond process from its formation to jewellery sales. The course also covers the difference between natural and synthetic diamonds. The course aims to educate those working in the diamond retail industry and consequently increase consumer trust in the industry. 

“As the major player in the global diamond cutting and polishing industry, India is an area of increased focus for us,” said De Beer’s director of education Jodine Perrin, according to the brand’s press release. “We recognise the need for new partnerships that bring education directly to students across large geographical areas, making education accessible and reducing the time and costs involved to businesses in staff training.”

“Over more than 50 years the IIG has established itself as a leader in the promotion and delivery of education of the highest standards,” said IIG’s Rahul Desai. “The collaboration between us and De Beers Group Institute of Diamonds will not only benefit students but will also empower entrepreneurs to enhance their skills in this unique industry.”

Following the launch of the online course in India, details concerning laboratory classes will be released in the coming weeks.
