Fast-moving consumer goods business Dabur has cited a shortage of manpower as a significant challenge to distributing essential goods across India during lockdown.

“The key issue that still remains is the availability of manpower and workers to run these operations,” Dabur India’s executive director for operations, Shahrukh Khan, told the Press Trust of India.

“With most workers either leaving for their hometowns or staying at home during the lockdown, it would be a challenge to ensure smooth functioning.”

Khan said that government approval for plant operations and transportation of goods has eased operations since the beginning of the lockdown, but workers are needed to transport the goods.

Dabur has turned its social media activities towards interactive campaigns to keep its customers engaged. The business launched a ‘Stay Fit From Home’ campaign on Facebook to encourage those under lockdown to keep up their fitness with tips and suggestions. As part of the campaign, Dabur is promoting its Dabur brand honey as a healthy beverage mixed with water and has orientated much of its marketing towards health.

The brand has also begun a number of social initiatives during lockdown. On March 29, Dabur donated ‘hygiene and nutrition kits’ to the Delhi Police and announced the business’ support for the force on Facebook.

Dabur also partnered with local NGOs to support migrant workers near the Delhi- Uttar Pradesh border to distribute essentials.
