Beauty, personal care, and fast moving consumer goods business Dabur India Limited plans to induct a fleet of 100 electric vehicles to make its logistics more eco-friendly as part of its wider plan to become carbon neutral.

Dabur India will roll-out the electric vehicles for its last-mile product distribution over the next 12 months, the business announced on April 19, ET Bureau reported. The first batch of the electric vehicles has already been added to the business’ delivery fleet in North India and is operating on deliveries in Sonipat, Haryana.

“Electric vehicles are an ideal solution to replace conventional fuel vehicles since they are energy-efficient, green and environment friendly,” said Dabur India’s CEO Mohit Malhotra in a statement, the Press Trust of India reported. “I am confident that this move will also help us propagate the use of electric vehicles even in the hinterland, helping India achieve its Green Energy Mission faster.”

The electric vehicles will help to reduce Dabur’s annual carbon emissions significantly, according to the business. Dabur also recently achieved waste neutrality in India.

“Vehicular emissions are one of the largest contributors to pollution and EVs are the future to not just keep pollution levels in check but also reduce our carbon footprint, as a nation,” said the business’ executive director of operations Sharukh A Khan.
