Cotton Association of India reduces cotton production estimate by 2.33% for 2021- 2022 season

The Cotton Association of India has reduced its cotton production estimate by 2.33% for 2021- 2022 season, which runs from October, 2021 to March, 2022. 

The CAI has reduced its cotton production estimate this season


The CAI has estimated that exports for the season total 45 lakh bales compared to 78 lakh bales in the 2020 to 2021 season, a significant reduction. The CAI released its March estimate, which includes the opening stock of 75 lakh bales at the beginning of the season, on April 10, ET Bureau reported. 
 
The CAI’s Crop Committee has estimated the total cotton supply until the end of the cotton season 2021-22 on September 30, 2022 totals 425.13 lakh bales. This is 8 lakh bales less than the CAI’s previous estimate of 433.13 lakh bales.

“The total cotton supply for the months of October 2021 to March 2022 is estimated by the CAI at 343.68 lakh bales, which consists of the arrivals of 262.68 lakh bales, imports of 6 lakh bales and the opening stock estimated by the CAI at 75 lakh bales at the beginning of the season,” said CAI in a statement, the Economic Times reported. 
 
The CAI has retained its consumption estimate for the current 2021 to 2022 crop year of 340 lakh bales compared to its 2020 to 2021 consumption estimate of 335 lakh bales.
