Colombo Fashion Week launches Emerging Designer Program for 2020

Sri Lanka’s Colombo Fashion Week has announced its Emerging Designer Program to search for up-and-coming fashion designers and give them the change to participate in at its upcoming 2020 fashion week.

“At Colombo Fashion Week, we believe that the strength of designers to follow will determine the future of Sri Lankan fashion,” wrote the event on Facebook. “Our Emerging Designer Showcase focuses on just that by honing the skills of young designers and providing them with a platform to grow their talent.”

Emerging designer applications are currently open. Interested designers can submit their portfolios and the selected designers will receive coaching and a place in the Colombo Fashion Week Emerging Designer Showcase.

The 2020 edition of the fashion week is still registering its runway designers and those confirmed so far are Dimuthu Sahabandu, Amilani Perera, Charini, Brian Kerkoven, Aslam Hussein, and Ciğdem Akın, according to the event’s website. Dates for the 2020 fashion week are yet to be announced. 

Colombo Fashion Week launched in 2003 to showcase Sri Lankan fashion for a global audience. The event has recently held editions focused on swimwear as well as fashion film screenings and a responsible fashion summit.
