CITI to organise 2nd Global Cotton Conference on 23rd November

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry is going to organise the 2nd Global Cotton Conference 2022 on “Game-Changing Technologies & Traits for Achieving High Yields and Fine Quality of Cotton” on Wednesday, November 23 at Hotel The Park in New Delhi. Aspects like traceability and circularity will also be discussed at the hybrid event.



Union minister of textiles, commerce & industry, consumer affairs and food & public distribution Piyush Goyal will give the inaugural address in his capacity as the Chief Guest at the event, where Fibre2Fashion, the global B2B platform for textile-apparel industry, will be a Media Partner.

Textile Advisory Group chairman Suresh Kotak will give a presentation on ‘Indian cotton – current and future trends’ in the theme session. Another presentation on ‘Tackling the textile & clothing industry’s carbon footprint’ would be made by Nishad Nanavaty, head - Business Development, ENEN Green Services Pvt Ltd.

The first session on ‘Revamping of Cotton Breeding Programs for Efficient Use of Genetic Resources under Changing Climate’ will see participation of Dr. CD Mayee, chairman of the Board of AFC India Ltd and president of South Asia Biotechnology Centre; Dr. M Ramasami, chairman and managing director of Rasi Seeds Ltd; Dr. SK Shukla, director of ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai; Dr. K Selvaraju, secretary general of Southern India Mills’ Association; and Dr. Keshav Kranthi, chief scientist of International Cotton Advisory Committee, US.

The second session will have ‘Cotton – Global Raw Material Scenario’ as its theme. Unupom Kausik, senior vice president, Olam India, will moderate the session where panellists will be Alexandre Schenkel, vice president, Abrapa (Brazilian Cotton Growers Association); Dr. Terry Townsend, global consultant, Cotton Analytics, US; Peush Narang, programme representative – India & Sri Lanka, Cotton Council International; and Sumeet Mittal, India head of Cotton, Louis Dreyfus Company.

The final session on ‘Traceability & Circularity’ will be moderated by economist and senior journalist G Chandrashekhar. Discussing the subject will be Crispin Argento, managing director, The Sourcery; Anita Chester, managing director, Laudes India; Tara Luckman, sustainability advisor, Cotton Council International; Jyoti Narain Kapoor, country director, Better Cotton Initiative – India; and Manish Gupta, manager - Supply Chain, Better Cotton Initiative – India.
