Circular Design Challenge to host next round with Lakme Fashion Week

The Circular Design Challenge will select a group of up-and-coming designers to showcase a capsule collection on Jan. 31 during Lakme Fashion Week. The winner will showcase an entire collection at the August 2019 edition.

The Circular Design Challenge has just closed applications for its current round of next-gen designers. The applicants, who must be Indian citizens, will be reviewed and a winning batch selected to showcase two to four garments on Jan. 31 during the upcoming season of Lakme Fashion Week.

The award aims to promote leadership in sustainability and so applicants much create sustainable designs. Designs should be created from diverse waste sources such as plastic and show both artistry and eco-friendly innovation. The award was created as a partnership between Lakme Fashion Week, Fashion for Earth by R|Elan, and UN Environment. The award describes itself as India’s first and largest sustainable fashion award.

The winner of the Circular Design Challenge will be funded to develop a full collection that will be showcased at Lakme Fashion Week’s subsequent edition in August 2019 with an audience of media, buyers and other stakeholders in the fashion industry. The prize intends to kick start the designer’s career and catapult them into the fashion industry. The winner will also receive a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh ($27,935).
