The current winter festive edition of LFW has the tagline “all-inclusive fashion” which is part of the fashion week’s campaign to open up the industry to all sizes, ages, and genders. Chola fully embraced this sentiment with its latest collection, “Bye Felicia”.

The collection, which was gender neutral, featured deconstructed tailoring with a colour palette of black, white, and grey. Straight jacket style shirts and traditional men’s suiting fabrics gave a masculine feel but tulle ruffles and oversized bows added femininity. The collection was a bold statement that clothing has no inherent gender.

The collection’s neutral colour palate was contrasted by bold makeup looks for female, male, and gender neutral models. Some of the looks were drag inspired and others split the face to be traditionally masculine on one side and traditionally feminine on the other. Hairstyles included vintage finger waves and 1940s style chignons and chain face-harnesses and embellished glasses adorned the diverse group of models.

Chola the Label was launched by Sohaya Misra after she gained experience in the industry working as a stylist. Chola has a flagship store in Bandra West, Mumbai and is also stocked in a number of multi-brand boutiques such as Ogaan, Ensemble, and Good Earth. The brand also launched its own dedicated e-commerce store last week.

Lakmé Fashion Week is currently running from August 22 to 26 at the St Regis in Mumbai. The fashion week is sponsored by IMG Reliance, Nexa, Nokia, Tencel, and Etihad Airways among others.
